Darbi + Gio | A Christ-Centered Fall Wedding at Black Bear Country Club

Darbi + Gio. Man, where do I even begin with this one?

So. These two were married on a beautiful fall day at the Black Bear Country Club at Crystal Springs Resort, surrounded by rolling hills and crisp autumn air. Darbi was radiant and sunshine. She wore her hair natural and curly, a choice that felt so Darbi-ish: effortless, confident, and grounded. And Gio looked so handsome in his three piece mauve suit!

This wedding was especially meaningful to me for more than one reason. I photographed Darbi and Gio’s day just four weeks after having my baby, which made it a bit of a wild ride — physically, emotionally, and hormonally. But I can say with absolute certainty: I would do it again a hundred times over. There was not a single regret. Being there, documenting this day, was SUCH a gift.

I’ve known Darbi for most of her life. I even used to be her youth group leader. I babysat her. I still remember making after-school smoothies together. She was a junior bridesmaid in my own wedding (13 years ago). I may or may not have cried countless times throughout the day (and yes, postpartum hormones probably played a role), but mostly it was because of how proud I am of her. Darbi has such a sincere desire to chase after God’s heart, and it shows in the way she lives, loves, and now, the way she enters marriage.

Gio + Darbi’s wedding ceremony was one of the most meaningful I’ve ever witnessed. In a quiet, sacred moment, Darbi + Gio washed each other’s feet — a powerful symbol of humility, service, and selfless love. It was a beautiful picture of the kind of marriage they are choosing: one rooted not in pride, but in serving one another the way Christ first served us. It perfectly captured the posture of their hearts as they entered into marriage together.

Okay I feel like I’ve talked a lot about Darbi, but it was also Gio’s special day, too, and let’s chat about him for a moment! While I haven’t known him for decades, he is such a kindhearted, steady, and gentle soul. I am ecstatic that they found each other! The way he loves Darbi, the way he adores Jesus, and the way he shows up with humility and joy is something truly special. . It was the sweetest honor to photograph their wedding day, to get to not only witness, but also capture this chapter of their story. I’m so proud of the woman Darbi is becoming, and so thankful she found a partner who cherishes her and her faith so beautifully.

Their marriage is already a testimony, and I cannot wait to see where God leads them next.
